Causes:

  1. Genetic Factors: Some individuals may have genetic mutations or predispositions that increase their risk of developing bone cancer.
  2. Radiation Exposure: Exposure to high doses of radiation, such as during radiation therapy for previous cancers, may increase the risk of bone cancer.
  3. Paget’s Disease: Paget’s disease of bone, a condition characterized by abnormal bone remodeling, can increase the risk of bone cancer.
  4. Inherited Conditions: Rare inherited syndromes, such as Li-Fraumeni syndrome and hereditary retinoblastoma, are associated with an increased risk of bone cancer.

Symptoms:

  1. Bone Pain: Persistent or worsening bone pain, which may worsen at night or with activity, is a common symptom of bone cancer.
  2. Swelling or Lump: A noticeable lump or swelling may develop over the affected bone.
  3. Fractures: Bone cancer can weaken the affected bone, increasing the risk of fractures or breaks.

  2. Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy involves the use of powerful medications to kill cancer cells or shrink tumors. It may be used before surgery (neoadjuvant chemotherapy) to shrink the tumor or after surgery (adjuvant chemotherapy) to kill any remaining cancer cells.
  3. Radiation Therapy: Radiation therapy uses high-energy beams to target and destroy cancer cells. It may be used alone or in combination with surgery and chemotherapy.
  4. Targeted Therapy: Targeted therapy drugs specifically target cancer cells or specific molecules involved in cancer growth and progression. These drugs may be used in certain types of bone cancer, such as osteosarcoma.
